Sewer line replacement
Our ancient sewer line collapsed on Friday morning, sadly. It was evidently made of Orangeburg pipe, which is a pipe developed during WWII that is made out of tar paper. It turns out that tar paper has a life span of 20-50 years and eventually it is going to fail. Ours broke, split and got holes in it which mud began falling into and filled up the pipe and blocked it. Now we are having it all replaced, as are many many other people around here - evidently the plumber does 100 of these a year in town. It is almost done but has required a lot of digging in the back yard and into the neighbor's back yard, because the sewer line runs under the neighbor's yard (rather than running out toward the street, the utilities here are in the back). Many thousands of dollars later, at last we have a sewer that will be working fine.

Saturday game
Owen's Reds played the White Sox on Saturday. The game ended in a 8-8 tie.
Douglas and his friend Kyler during the game. Kyler had just played with his farm team.
Owen pitched and struck out three batters in a row!
Their coach has them pitch only one inning per game, so his pitching went quickly.
He also got a walk and two singles.

Oh no, not that...
Owen came home yesterday and said that he didn't want to go to PE any more. He usually likes PE. I asked, "Why not?" and he said, "Because we have to do square dancing!" Luckily he danced with another boy yesterday, but I suppose that won't last forever.
Tonight is his first baseball game - actually a scrimmage - so we just went out and bought a huge load of baseball gear for both of them. Baseball pants, socks, belts, cleats, batting gloves, blah blah blah.
Oh well, I suppose there are other sports that would be more expensive.

Baseball
Douglas had his first tee ball practice on Monday. He seemed to enjoy it. Owen had his first practice a half hour later on the other side of town, which was not very convenient, but hopefully we will figure out a better way to deal with that since parents are actually supposed to stay and help at the tee ball practice.
Here are the boys on the team getting their uniforms. As you can see he is on the Cardinals. Owen is on the AAA Reds.
