Oral language fair

Owen's class memorized a poem to recite in the Oral Language Fair, which was last night. They won for the 4th grade (he is in a 3-4 combination class), although I'm not actually sure there were any other 4th grade classes competing. Since they won they will get to go compete against other 4th grade classes from other schools in the district, some time soon.

Today his class is on a field trip to Sonoma Mission and Petaluma Adobe - hopefully should be fun.

I liked this pie chart I saw online:

Tour of California

It was a wet, wet day for the Tour.

Lance Armstrong and Floyd Landis both came out of retirement to ride in it, but they go by so fast that we really weren't able to recognize anyone.

Apparently Lance's bike was stolen last night out of a van parked near his hotel in Sacramento. Oops.

Here come the front of the pack, closely following that silver car.

There were many other cars following them, all with lots of extra bike parts on top.

Pictures from last week at the park...

Happy Valenbirthday

Dan left earlier to go to work, since a budget deal is cooking. Hopefully they'll get something passed, even though the proposal stinks.

40 years young

Happy birthday to Dan tomorrow! We will be going out to dinner on Sunday evening to celebrate (and eating cake at home tomorrow). Eating out on Valentine's day has proven to be too challenging to bother with.

This morning Douglas decided to yank on the pendant light over the dining room table and managed to pull the electric cord out several inches. Naturally after having been told never to touch the light about two million times. We will have to work on fixing that tonight when we have two adults available.

Sunday morning the Tour of California will have its first leg starting in Davis. Lance Armstrong is coming out of retirement to ride in it, and Levi Leipheimer and many others will also be in town. Very big deal. There is going to be a festival downtown to celebrate, so we'll be looking forward to that. I hope it won't be raining. It has been rainy lately.

Douglas lost his first tooth.

And he's pretty pleased about it!

Last Saturday we went to San Francisco to the California Academy of Sciences new building, which has been closed for 5 years for remodeling. It was a pretty cool place. Below are some pictures.
