School year is drawing to a close...

The last day of school is June 12. This past Saturday was the big school carnival, Spring Fling. It was around 101 degrees - a bit much for spending most of the day outdoors! The kids had a good time, though, playing lots of games and running around with their friends. I worked at the snack booth for a while, and there was a constant line of people wanting to buy water, which we kept running out of.

Owen's team is in the baseball playoffs. They played their first playoff game last night and, somewhat surprisingly, won 7-0. They have 3 scheduled playoff games - the next one not for another 10 days - but if they win 2 of the 3 they will get to play other games.

This weekend we will be heading to the Bay Area for a little R&R. On Saturday we will be spending the day and night in San Francisco, and Sunday night we will be in Palo Alto visiting with my friend Alexandra and her 1 year old boy. We return to Davis Monday.

Happy May

Two recent athletic feats of note:

Dan ran 5 miles or so in a relay organized by some co-workers in the Big Sur Marathon last Sunday. Congratulations! He had a good time albeit having to get up at 3:30 a.m., not to mention getting sunburned.

Owen played well in his baseball game on Sunday, including a diving catch of a ball hit by the son of his guitar teacher, and was awarded the game ball. He thought that was pretty cool.

I've been working in the garden, and hoping we can produce a few veggies this year. We also have a new compost bin under the sink which is rapidly filling up and hopefully will give us some good fertilizer.

Today is Schoolapalooza, a fundraiser for the Davis Schools Foundation ... so far they have raised over $800,000 which is a good start but not enough to buy back all the teachers. We are still waiting to hear about the Montessori ones. May 15 is the deadline for the money to be raised; after that the board will begin figuring out who they will bring back.
