Last swimming lesson...
Today is the last lesson. The kids have been having them approximately 4 days a week all summer and Owen, at least, has really made progress. He could sort of doggy-paddle at the beginning of the summer but now he can swim freestyle, float on his back, breast stroke, even back stroke. Douglas hasn't learned too much but in the last lesson he actually took the bold step of floating around by himself in a blow-up swim ring, unattached to adults, which was a first for him. So maybe he's also beginning to be a little more comfortable.
Next week the kids and I go to Seattle for a few days to visit our friends who moved up there recently. Should be fun.
Dan's been working like a dog, but today is supposedly the end of the most difficult period ... at least we hope so.

who moved up to Seattle?
Our friends Alisa & Paul and their boys, who formerly lived in Berkeley (and whom we met in DC when they were also living there, Alisa and I used to work together at NCHS).
