Bushtit


Sounds naughty, doesn't it?

I'm afraid it's a real bird that we've been seeing around our yard.

I bet the bird would have chosen a different name if anyone had asked it.

Silly name, but I'd guess the bushtit is related to the titmouse, a common bird in our area (VA and NC). Same coloring and size, but the titmouse has a crest on its head. It's usually found in company with chickadees.

Could be. I'm pretty sure that's what it was anyway, after consulting our bird book.

We've also seen some burrowing owls lately around Davis. They are very cute, small and out in the daytime just standing around on the sidewalk.
