First day of school

Today was the first day of school. Both kids had good days.

Here they are all dressed up and ready to go. Owen got a teacher he really, really likes. He seems very excited about the year.

Douglas is more blase but seemed reasonably happy with his day as well.

Douglas practicing his cutting on the first day of kindergarten. They had to draw a self-portrait, trace and cut out a picture of their hand, locate their cubbies and where to hang up their backpacks, and find the bathrooms. His teacher is kind of old fashioned but so far, so good.

King Tut

We went to see the Tutankhamen show at the DeYoung museum in San Francisco yesterday with some friends. Unfortunately they wouldn't let any photography in the exhibit, so these pics are from the DeYoung tower and outdoors.

The tower has a great view.

At the end of the exhibit you could have your name printed in hieroglyphics, which the kids thought was cool.

Douglas this a.m.

I was opening my new driver's license that came in the mail.

Douglas: What's that?
Me: It's my new driver's license.
Douglas: Did you order it on YouTube?

Pre-K

Douglas went to his first day of the pre-kindergarten program at the after-school center attached to the school where he will be starting in a few weeks. It went VERY well. When I picked him up he said he really liked it and had a lot of fun. He also saw 5 other kids he knew there, so that helped - we don't know yet how many (if any) of them will be in his class but it was nice to have some familiar faces on the first day.

Owen is in a park-based camp this week and had a lot of fun also. Tomorrow afternoon they will be swimming.
