Class play

These are a few pictures from Owen's class play on Monday morning.

Here he was during his brief time on stage...

And pleased afterward with how it went.

And, not from the play, but Douglas sneaking up to get some candy out of the basket on top the fridge.

Merry Xmas

Pictures from Xmas tree-ville.

Class play

Owen's class did a couple of plays this morning - one for the first graders and one for the second graders. He had a very minor part - he was a duck who came on at the end and quacked. The kids were pretty cute and very excited about it. Mostly they mumbled so it was not possible to hear what they were saying. Owen's classmate Max was more or less the star and hammed it up so he did a reasonable job.

Front paged

The press release on our teen driving study ran virtually verbatim on the front page of the Davis Enterprise yesterday. They even put pull-out quotes from "me" (actually our press officer wrote them) on the inside page. They never called me before it ran, they just plunked it on there.

It was by-lined "Enterprise staff" so I suggested to the press officer that she call them and demand to be paid.

The -adens

Owen's friend from school, Jaden, came over yesterday. They had fun putzing around the yard pretending to be superheroes.

He also has a friend who was in his class last year named Caden. And Douglas has a classmate named Hayden, and formerly one named Aidan.

I will give Aidan credit as the original name, but am expecting Playden, Spayden and Strayden to come along any day now.

Sorry about that, Marni and Christine.

Ice skating

Owen and I went ice skating this afternoon with his friend Justin and his dad. Justin had never been skating before, whereas Owen had been a couple of times, so Justin was a little slower to pick it up. He spent a good deal of time at first basically hanging onto/by his dad's hand. However, by the end he and Owen were skating around together happily. They were pretty happy and thought it was the most fun they'd had in a while.

On a break we were having some hot chocolate, and Owen ended up bobbling it and literally splashing it all over his face. Barely any ended up on his clothes, but his entire face, hair and hands looked like he had dipped them 100% into hot chocolate. I don't even know how he did it. It was Olympic gold medal-level spillage.

There were lots of after school play dates this week. Monday Owen was at Ben's house, Wed. Zanevan was here, Thurs he was at Patrick's and Fri we met Silas at the park. All kinds of fun. He's developing some new friendships from his class, so that's nice. I really like Silas's mom too so hopefully we can get to know them a little better. They live quite close by as well.

Work stuff

The teen driving study I have been working on is featured on the UC website this month. We are doing news about it. I just did an interview with Sacramento-based KFBK which will air tonight and tomorrow morning am doing one with a Portland, OR-based nationally syndicated program called "The Playhouse" which I am hoping does not spend too much time making fun of our results.

Dan was in San Diego yesterday checking out multiple schools, including one that was a charter for Muslim students and was converted to a regular Arabic language magnet school. Different. They gave him a very tasty chicken curry wrap for lunch from the cafeteria.
